Junior - First Year Singles Event Policy

Purpose

To outline the eligibility criteria for playing in the Kohimarama First Year Singles Event (the event) typically held in early March.

Background

While the event has always been for first year bowlers, there has been some confusion about whether members who have recently joined the club can defer playing in the event to the following year.  The criteria have been clarified and to avoid confusion the event is open to all Year 1 bowlers, regardless of when they join the club.  Members join the club at different times of the year and therefore have differing levels of skill and experience. It is not possible to ever fully account for this with a single event.

Criteria

  1. The event is open to members who are a Year 1 (J1) bowler according to the Bowls Auckland definition.
  2. All members who join the club as a new bowler have one opportunity to play in the event.
  3. If a member chooses not to or is unable to play in the event in the year that they are eligible then the opportunity is lost.
  4. The event is designed for new bowlers, not new members. Members transferring from another club will only be eligible to play in the event if they are a Year 1 (J1) bowler according to the Bowls Auckland definition.

Examples:

Member A joins the club on 1 November 2022. They are eligible to play in the tournament in 2023.

Member B joins the club on 1 March 2023, one week prior to the event. They are eligible to play in the event in 2023.

Member C was a member of another club for 6 months before transferring to Kohimarama Bowling Club in December 2022. They are eligible to play in the event in 2023.

Member D was a member of another club for 12 months before transferring to Kohimarama Bowling Club in November 2022. They are not eligible to play in the event.
